Course Description: In the Defensive Rifle Essentials course, civilians will learn crucial skills for responsible firearms ownership and the effective defensive use of rifles. The course begins with a comprehensive overview of firearm safety, covering essential rules and storage conditions, including the concept of "Cruiser Ready" and different loading conditions. Participants will delve into the mindset required for defensive shooting, focusing on mental preparation, stress management, and the development of mental toughness necessary for high-pressure situations.
The curriculum emphasizes the importance of a proper fighting stance and improves marksmanship fundamentals through grip, sight picture, breath control, trigger press, and follow-through techniques. Students will practice various rifle ready positions and learn about offsets, preparing them for real-world scenarios. Tactical live-fire movement techniques, such as shooting on the move and pivots, will be explored to enhance shooting proficiency and adaptability in dynamic environments.
Engaging multiple targets efficiently and accurately at different distances will be a key focus, along with mastering alternative shooting positions and utilizing cover effectively. Gear Requirements
- Rifle: A reliable semi-automatic rifle. Ensure it is properly maintained and zeroed before the class.
- Sling: A sturdy and adjustable sling for securing the rifle to your body when not in use and facilitating ease of movement during drills.
- Magazines: At least three to four magazines for your rifle, with a capacity of 20 to 30 rounds each. Ensure they are in good condition and properly functioning.
- Ammunition: Sufficient ammunition for the duration of the class, typically around 300 to 400 rounds.
- Eye and Ear Protection: ANSI-rated eye protection and ear protection (earplugs or earmuffs) to safeguard against potential hazards on the range.
- Clothing: Dress appropriately for outdoor shooting activities, considering the weather conditions. Comfortable, breathable clothing that allows for a wide range of movement is ideal.
- Footwear: Sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots with good ankle support for navigating various terrain and performing dynamic movements.
